Catholic Schools

Sacred Heart Primary School and Nursery

Sacred Heart Primary School and Nursery is adjacent to Sacred Heart Church, with its entrance on Windermere Road. In 2008, the school’s OFSTED inspectors described Sacred Heart as a “good and improving school with some outstanding features”. Links between the school and the parish are strong, and the school’s religious education standards and Catholic ethos are outstanding. Sacred Heart School is the designated primary school for children living in the central and southern parts of the parish (within the boundaries of the former parish of Sacred Heart).

Other Primary Schools

Secondary Schools

St Bernard’s High School and Arts College (for girls) and St Thomas More High School (for boys) are the Catholic secondary schools in our area.

School Applications

The Catholic schools in Southend are non-feepaying and are supported by local authority funding. Applications for places at these schools are made through Southend-on-Sea Borough Council (or Essex County Council for St Teresa’s Primary School in Rochford). Priority for places at these schools is given to baptised children of Catholic families, but the exact requirements vary from school to school. Enquiries about the application procedures should therefore be addressed to the individual school concerned.
